Dixie County Walks comes to a close with winners of all ages

Another Successful Year

 


 

 

 

This year we had 166 participants complete the entire program with 28 millions steps walked.

Dixie County Walks came to a close on
November 9, 2010 with another incredible year. 

We were thrilled with the number of children who participated in the program this year. 

The winners of the Wii Fit systems which were donated by the Dixie County Chamber and Quit Doc were Sam Bryan and the Jean Chavous.

The most improved walker was Shauna Clark.

This year Dixie County Walked over 28 million steps.

Crystal McDowell was the winner of the most weight and the winner of a Mother of Pearl necklace set donated by Mitch Gold & Diamond Store.
Judy Pearce was the winner of the most steps walked and received a free one night stay at Pelican Point Inn in Steinhatchee donated by Fiddler's Restaurant.

The Dixie Walks Community Preventative Health Program Kicks Off.

According to the American Heart Association, for every hour of regular, vigorous exercise we do -- like brisk walking -- we can live two hours longer.

Walking has the lowest dropout rate of any physical activity, and is the simplest positive change individuals can make to effectively improve their heart health.

Dixie County Walks has engages family, friends and your local community in awareness for a healthier you. Every step makes a difference in the quality of life for each of us.

Research has shown that the benefits of walking and moderate physical activity for at least 30 minutes total on most days of the week or every day can help: Reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, Improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels, Improve blood lipid profile, Maintain body weight and lower the risk of obesity, enhance mental well-being, Reduce the risk of osteoporosis, Reduce the risk of breast and colon cancer, Reduce the risk of non-insulin dependent (type 2) diabetes.

The Team who has the best average of total steps walked will have a $200 check donated to the Dixie County Education foundation in their name. Prizes will be give to the individual that improves the most over the 6 weeks and also the person who loses the most weight. But Remember that Every individual who completes the challenge of walking at least 3 days a week for the 6 weeks will be entered into a drawing to be held at the closing ceremony November 9th.
